I don't think it's possible that theIf the.htaccessfile was not loaded on the server because it was ignored, use FileZilla, configured in binary mode, send the phpBB core files back to the server , overwriting those already present.
.htaccess file was ignored. I uploaded to the server the whole file phpBB-3.3.14.tar.bz2 not the single files in it. Then I unpacked it on the server, there is no reason a file wasn't extracted from that package, unless the server is configured so as not to accept a .htaccess file.
