And what about quoting posts?
Should user_search be based on username or display_name, or perhaps both?
What should happen with the sender_name of PMs, the username or the display_name? and ... what about the receiver?
Can a member use a real username of another user (or a display_name of another user)?
Should a history of display_names be kept?

The point I'm making is that it's easy to create a display_name but there are quite a few procedures in phpBB that in one way or another rely on username (e.g. to get the user_id)

Then there's the issue that some users may overuse the feature.
