Did you make both changes? The first one removes the sid's from the urls and the second one leads people with an expired sid in the url to the expired.htm. If people have saved a url with a sid (as a favorite or whatever) then such a url will give a problem all the time. But if they start from links without sid they will receive the pages they request (and without sid's in the embedded links).

If they have also accepted cookies they can also have sessions. But without cookies they will not have sessions. (Autologin requires cookies and is not affected by these changes).
Yes, I've made both changes, and created an expired.htm page that only contains a single static link back to the site. Apparently it broke all IOS devices, which complained about a redirection loop. Some internet searching seems to point to IOS browsers being very sensitive to redirection and exactly how it is done, even in scenarios where other browsers are not.
