Your SMTP settings appear to be using: rforum.kirkbird.com:465 as the SMTP server. Unless your server has the SMTP server on it, that may be the wrong address. If that's what your host told you to use, you'll need to go back to them and verify since it doesn't seem to be working.
Thanks, those both seem like good pointers to try. I appreciate the advice. I'm trying to balance when it's best to check here, and when it's best to check HOSTDASH support. The other thought is that perhaps "your server" is the correct SMTP server exactly as HostDash prescribed, but your public IP address (the one returned by resolving rforum.kirkbird.com) is not the IP address on which the SMTP service was supposed to be accessed. Maybe try "localhost" instead of the DNS name, in case SMTP is available to you on loopback but not on the public interface. And/or the firewall or protection rule only kicks in on the public interface.
