After all the "help my forum is swapped with bots" threads, I thought I'd experiment with porting the Anubis anti-bot program to phpBB. What is Anubis you ask? Well...

Anubis is a rapidly growing program created in Go to protect websites from scrappers, crawlers, and other unwanted pests by forcing them to spend resources on proof of work challenges. It's lightweight for the server and expensive for the bot. Yet it is remains user friendly requiring no user interaction and completes in a few seconds.
"In most cases, you should not need this and can probably get by using Cloudflare to protect a given origin. However, for circumstances where you can't or won't use Cloudflare, Anubis is there for you."
At the moment this is a proof of concept, experimental extension. Should have a download link for it sometime this next week.
