It sounds like all you're asking for in practical terms is an API that would let you pull the data out of phpBB and into a wrapper. I was going to build an API but there's not enough demand for one so I binned it.

it depends on who you talk to about this, but my personal opinion is that the web and forums in general have grown to become a niche thing compared to how it was the only way to talk 20 years ago. So if you have a forum, people will use it regardless of whether they use a computer or mobile so you shouldn't worry that most of your visitors come from mobile devices.
There is no demand because it's the same old people who keep this going. The phpbb community has stopped in time and makes a point of driving away new developers.

The biggest phpbb forums are always the phpbb forums themselves.

Do you want a practical example? Look at how many buttons and screens I had to go through to send this reply? When I could have simply had a text box and a send button (and especially without a redirection screen to confirm the submission, that hasn't been used since 1990)?
Yes, I know there's a quick reply function, but do you understand how you still prefer the best way FOR YOU? When everything should be planned FOR PEOPLE?

I don't think I have anything else to add. That's it.

It breaks my heart to face this, phpbb made me learn php and to this day it's the language I hold dear. But the only thing I can say that is useful to this community is: start using the phpbb forum from your cell phone if you want to keep this here for the new generations. Understand the minds of the new users and the people, they are the ones who will keep the code up and running.
