I'm just wondering about something.
Normally (except for phpBB) I'm used to set a certain thread as watched/subscribed/bookmarked and get notifications about that thread.
But I don't always want to be subscribed to a thread.
It seems such option is not possible in phpBB, because the "Notify me upon replies by default:" is working contradictory in some way.
Normally I would think the "Notify me upon replies by default" when set to yes, would subscribe me automatically to every thread and then send me notifications.
However, we also have the "Edit notification options" where we can set if and when we want to get notifications.
And this works contracdictory in some way.
Because if I want to use phpBB like I do with others, I would have the "notify me upon replies by default" set to NO, and then set the options I want to use like "Someone replies to a topic you have bookmarked" and/or "Someone replies to a topic to which you are subscribed" to yes, so I get a reply only on those threads I bookmarked or subscribed to.
So this would be the section to configure if and when I should get a notification, not needing a default subscribtion to every thread.
However, when I set the "notify me upon replies by default" to NO. Then I don't get any notification, no matter what I configure in the "edit notification options" section.
This is not something happening on a specific forum of me, but on every phpBB 3.3.x forum (maybe older too, I don't know).
So in fact, you either mandatory subscribe to all threads automatically, or not get any notifications at all. That is an odd setting.
Wouldn't it be a good suggestion to improve this greatly. Meaning.
1.) If set the default option to -no- then let the notification options page decide wheater and when we get a notification, so no auto subscribe to threads, that can always be done manually anyway.
2.) If set the default option to yes then always be auto subscribed to every thread participated in, and have the notification option page decide which kind of notification we would like to have.
I don't know if that is suggested before, I tried a search but couldn't find it that quickly. So sorry if it's a dupe.
